T. Sen et al., STUDIES ON THE ANTIINFLAMMATORY AND RELATED PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF PSIDIUM-GUAJAVA - A PRELIMINARY-REPORT, PTR. Phytotherapy research, 9(2), 1995, pp. 118-122
The methanolic fraction of Psidium guajava fruit extract was found to
possess significant inhibitory activity against carragenin, kaolin and
turpentine-induced oedema formation. The fraction significantly inhib
ited protein exudation. The proliferative form of inflammation was sig
nificantly counteracted following cotton pallet-induced granuloma form
ation in rats. Acetic acid-induced algesia (writhing) in mice was sign
ificantly inhibited by the fraction. Significant antipyretic activity
of the fraction was observed following yeast-induced pyrexia in rats.
Potent antiarthritic activity was observed with the fraction against f
ormaldehyde-induced chronic arthritis in rats.
