Abstract
The author could have, somehow, tried to sum up main results, over thi rty years, in her field-sociolgy of work. Considering the present deba te in Ergonomics on the collective aspects of work and the many method ological problems still unsolved, another choice is made. The article focusses on three contemporary authors-Goffman, Grice and Gumperz-who share a common interest for interpretation procedures, based on a few analytical notions to be tested on empirical data. Coordination is a c omplex phenomena on which many research perspectives converge, from Ec onomy to Philosophy, including Sociology, Psychology and certain Cogni tive Sciences. It is yet to be understood. Although one among many pos sible ways to look into what is often called either collective, collab orative, shared or distrubuated activities, interpretation procedures are still opaque enough to call attention. ''Conversational rules'' ba sed on natural logics (Grice), ''Contextualization clues'' analyzed by certain trends in Sociolinguistics (Gumperz) and basic ''frames'' of understanding observed in a sociophenomenological approach (Goffman) a re three different ways to gain insight on the mysterious question: ho w is cooperation managed?
