F. Voutsinoutaliadouri et al., ACTIVE GROWTH OF A SUBMARINE SLAG DISPOSAL ORE DEPOSIT IN THE NORTHERN EUBOEKOS GULF, GREECE, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 4(3), 1995, pp. 195-200
Sea-bottom sediment samples recovered from a slag disposal site of a F
e-Ni alloy smelting plant in the northern Euboekos Bay, Greece, were a
nalysed for Fe, Cr, Ni, Mn, Zn, Co, Cu, Pb and organic carbon. A compa
rison between affected and not-affected by the slag sites gives the fo
llowing enrichment factors: 22 for Fe, 70-100 for Cr, 7-10 for Ni, 7 f
or Co and about 4 for Mn and Zn. This latest set of data when compared
with data obtained in the same area and with the same methodology 8 y
ears ago, display an enrichment of values of the order of 2-7 for Cr a
nd of the order of 1.5-2.5 for Fe, Ni, Mn, Zn, Cu, Co. However, on the
northern part of the deposit, concentration values are dramatically e
nhanced by a factor of 40 for Cr, 20 for Fe and up to 8 for Ni, Mn and
Co.
