Abstract
The dynamic concentration model for lubrication by oil-in-water emulsi ons proposed by Wilson et al. (1) is applied to strip rolling to deriv e a relatively simple equation for inlet film thickness. the predictio ns of the new model are supported by rolling experiments using emulsio ns as lubricants, where the film thickness is inferred from the surfac e roughness that is generated on the workpiece during rolling. The exp eriments also seem to suggest that the efficiency of oil droplet captu re increases with increasing rolling speed.
