Abstract
The traditional preference of the Chinese is for the elderly to live w ith their children. It is also observed that there is a growing prefer ence among the elderly to lead an independent life. It is not clear ho w well received this new preference for independent living among the e lderly in Hong Kong is. This paper is an attempt to find out the facto rs that differentiate co-residence and independent living of the elder ly persons in Hong Kong.
