These are times of change in every respect. Society, technology and ec
onomy are affecting the management needs of organizations in every sec
tor. A considerable amount of thinking is going on to meet the situati
on and many management paradigms are being suggested almost every day
and practised. Most of them are based on empiricism. In practice, they
are turning out to be fads and not as effective as they are expected
to be, due to very little theoretical support. While all this practice
has meaning in the short run, in terms of accelerated change, as now,
a paradigm shift seems to be needed. This paper argues for this and p
roposes a shift in the present paradigms.
