P. Ostlund et al., LEAD AND SULFUR ISOTOPE-DILUTION DURING DISPERSION FROM THE FALUN MINING AREA, Journal of geochemical exploration, 52(1-2), 1995, pp. 91-95
Sulphur and lead isotopes in water and sediments have been measured in
the river Dalalven system. The river receives sulphate from two princ
iple sources; atmospheric deposition in the river drainage area and co
ntinuously weathered sulphide rich mine waste. Lead in the sediments o
riginates from both the ambient geological materials, as well as from
the mine waste. Mixing models were applied to both sulphur and lead is
otopes. The results demonstrate that it is possible to define and quan
tify the emission sources and dispersions in a receiving water body an
d its sediments.
