A facet-model of linguistic discrimination, established on the basis o
f Graumann & Wintermantel (1989), is validated. In particular, the cog
nitive functions Separating and Devaluation are examined in the commun
icative Situation. In order to check whether the model excerpt is subj
ect to an ethnocentric bias, both german and non-german subjects (106
subjects) have been included. Because of theoretical assumptions, the
model excerpt is modelled in the form of a cylinder. The respective ''
spatial hypotheses'' are checked using multi-dimensional scaling coord
inates (MDS). They were essentially confirmed in both groups of subjec
ts.
