Abstract
Glucuronic acid was covalently coupled to aminopropyl derivatized sili ca by reducing the Schiff base with NaCNBH3. This glucuronic acid-sili ca has a functional pKa in the pH 3-4 range and binds 202 mg hemoglobi n per gram material at pH 5. The support is a high-performance cation- exchanger and exhibited only minor hydrophobic interaction with applie d samples. It also gave reasonably constant retention of the proteins tested.
