Abstract
This paper describes a computer program for generating finite element meshes for electron guns. Two new methods, the 'projection' and the 'm esh density function' methods, are used to generate the mesh. The new methods enable the mesh distribution to be set smoothly and changed ea sily, and also enable the mesh distribution to be adjusted according t o parameters associated with the gun configuration or by feedback from the electric field calculation. The new program, which can handle a l arge variety of complicated electron gun structures, has been used in conjunction with the SOGUN program which has been developed by Zhu and Munro for electron gun simulation.
