U. Hartmann et H. Vahrenkamp, COORDINATION CHEMISTRY OF ZINC WITH PHARMACEUTICAL LIGANDS - THE ZINC-ASPIRIN COMPLEX, Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Chemistry, 42(2), 1994, pp. 161-167
The reaction between the sodium salt of aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid
) and zinc salts results in the formation of the zinc aspirin complex
which was crystallized as Zn(acetylsaliclylate)(2)(H2O)(2). Its crysta
l structure determination has revealed a severely distorted tetrahedra
l coordination of the zinc ion with two monodentate carboxylate groups
and two water molecules as ligands.
