Abstract
Deposits of alumina/rare earth oxides Ln(2)O(3) (Ln = Dy, Y, Er) have been obtained by plasma spraying. This technique leads to noncrystalli ne phases for specific compositions. The microstructure of such coatin gs is very compact (low porosity). This could be suitable for protecti on of surfaces against corrosive atmosphere. The influence of rare ear th oxide and mixture composition on the occurence of such glassy coati ngs is discussed. The thermal behaviour of deposits (devitrification) and its consequences on mechanical properties are studied.
