THROMBELASTOGRAPHY REVEALS 2 CAUSES OF HEMORRHAGE IN HELLP-SYNDROME

We describe the use of thrombelastography in HELLP syndrome (Haemolysi s, Elevated Liver Enzymes, Low Platelets). It differentiated between t wo possible causes of significant haemorrhage and revealed an accompan ying underlying fibrinolysis. This allowed specific therapy to be dire cted at both abnormalities and, we believe, helped prevent this patien t from undergoing radical surgery to curb blood loss.
