Abstract
This paper describes the method of the water quality index (WQI), whic h is used to estimate the cleanness of water. It contains the lists of basic and additional parameters, the formula for the summarized index and the algorithm for evaluation of summarized and guarantee index. I t is illustrated by practical examples of evaluation of WQI in the riv ers of the Vistula basin in Poland.
