Radionuclide ventriculography (cineangiography) and myocardial perfusi
on scintigraphy provide information about prognosis in elderly patient
s with coronary artery disease. However, the prognostic utility of the
se techniques after myocardial infarction has received limited attenti
on in the elderly. Studies have shown that left ventricular ejection f
raction at rest, determined using radionuclide ventriculography, can p
redict subsequent cardiac events in this high-risk subgroup. Additiona
l research in this patient population is needed to validate the progno
stic utility of exercise and pharmacological stress in conjunction wit
h this and other nuclear imaging techniques.
