Primary care physicians are often looked to for guidance relating to c
ommon behavioral issues. Physicians caring for children should be awar
e of the importance of early psychosocial attachment experiences and t
heir theorized relationship to later behaviors of the child. Areas of
behavior discussed in this chapter include sleep, colic, feeding and d
iet, discipline, sexuality, aggression and biting, toilet training, an
d school avoidance. Information and interventions can prevent subseque
nt behavior problems when lack of knowledge or difficulties are antici
pated.
