A. Domnanovich et al., ELASTIC-MODULI AND INTERLAMINAR SHEAR-STRENGTH OF A BIDIRECTIONAL CARBON-CARBON COMPOSITE AFTER HEAT-TREATMENT, Composites science and technology, 53(1), 1995, pp. 7-12
In this work a bidirectionally laminated carbon/carbon composite has b
een heat treated ('graphitized') at three different temperatures (1800
, 2100, and 2400 degrees C). The Young's modulus, E(11), the intralami
nar modulus, G(12), and the interlaminar shear modulus, G(13), were me
asured by a resonant beam method for the three modifications. It is sh
own that an increase in the graphitization temperature leads to an inc
rease in the Young's modulus and a decrease in the interlaminar shear
modulus. The intralaminar shear strength shows a maximum for the mater
ial heat treated at 2100 degrees C and increases with increasing resti
ng temperature.
