Abstract
In both structures, hydrogen glutarate [HO2C(CH2)(3)-CO2](-) anions ar e linked into infinite chains by asymmetric O--H ... O hydrogen bonds [O ... O 2.614 (1) Angstrom (Li), 2.452 (4) Angstrom, (Cs)]. The Cs sa lt additionally contains chains where anions are linked by symmetrical O ... H ... O hydrogen bonds [O ... O 2.444(4) Angstrom]. The Li+ ion is four-coordinate while both independent Cs+ ions are eight-coordina te.
