Elephantiasis is the outcome of persistent lymphedema. It is refractor
y to different therapy modalities. The social approachability of patie
nts with this disease is impaired by severe functional and cosmetic di
sturbances. The causal relationship between etiology and recurrent dis
ease is demonstrated by two cases. Treatment options are discussed. Ra
dical surgery is decisive for primary success since chronic inflammati
on and chronic edema support each other. Metabolic equilibrium, disinf
ecting skin areas and antibiotic prophylaxis are urgent steps in the s
uccessful treatment of Erysipelas disease.
