R. Colebunders et al., HISTOPLASMA-CAPSULATUM INFECTION IN 3 AIDS PATIENTS LIVING IN AFRICA, Scandinavian journal of infectious diseases, 27(1), 1995, pp. 89-91
Three AIDS patients are reported, 2 European and 1 African. All 3 deve
loped Histoplasma capsulatum infection while living in Africa. Two dev
eloped a pulmonary infiltrate, and 2 had skin lesions. One patient was
successfully treated with itraconazole, 400 mg daily; in a second pat
ient, itraconazole was partially successful; the third patient was los
t to follow-up before adequate treatment could be started. Histoplasma
infection is probably an often undiagnosed complication in African AI
DS patients.
