This Grand Rounds presents the case of a girl who, at the age of 1 yea
r, witnessed her mother's violent death. She was first seen by a child
psychiatrist at age 4 years and has remained symptomatic for more tha
n 5 years after the traumatic event. The case is discussed from the st
andpoint of the interrelationships among posttraumatic stress, memory,
attachment, and mourning.
