Abstract
A comparison is made between the intermetallic compounds R(2)Fe(14)B, R(2)Fe(17) and RFe(12-x)M(x) (R=rare earth metal and M=Ti, Mo) and the ir interstitial derivatives (hydrides, carbides and nitrides). The rol e of the different interstitial elements on the magnetic properties wi ll be reviewed through their crystal structure (in particular the loca lization of the interstitial) and through experimental work done by ma gnetic susceptibility, Curie point measurements and neutron diffractio n.
