Abstract
In the last few years a large number of different procedures for flick er reduction were proposed. The different types are linear interpolati on, nonlinear median filtering, motion adaptive processing, and vertic al edge adaptive processing. These methods can be used for conversion to progressive scanning, but also for doubling the field frequency to avoid large area flicker. An experimental system was built to compare the different kinds of flicker reduction methods. Subjective tests sho w the advantages and drawbacks of each procedure. Based on these resul ts, an optimized algorithm for an edge adaptive processing is proposed .
