DEVELOPMENT OF TWIN-ROLL STRIP CASTER FOR SHEET STEELS

POSCO and RIST of Korea, together with Davy in the UK, are collaborati ng in the development of strip casting by the twin roll process. A pil ot plant for producing 350 mm wide thin strip in 1 t coils has been co nstructed and commissioned at the Pohang Works of POSCO. Pilot plant p arameters determined by physical and mathematical modelling are descri bed, plant startup and general operation practices are reviewed, and e arly results from a programme of product quality evaluation of as cast and cold rolled materials are introduced, in terms of surface and int ernal qualities.
