Abstract
A 3BdB-gain silica fibre Raman amplifier is demonstrated at 1.3 mu m u sing a 1064nm pump. Cascaded Raman generation and amplification are ac hieved in a monolithic ring cavity constructed solely from conventiona l fibre components, i.e. fusion WDM couplers and standard silica fibre .
