Abstract
Depression is commonly encountered in medical settings and often may b e a symptom of an underlying medical illness. This case report illustr ates the disabling symptoms of anxiety and depression that can accompa ny a toxic nodular goiter, and underscores the importance of both accu rate psychiatric diagnosis and appropriate medical evaluation in the a ssessment of psychiatric disorders in the elderly.
