Nonlinear models that are composed of a linear dynamic element in seri
es with a nonlinear static element prove to be very attractive in desc
ribing the behaviour of many chemical processes. In this paper, a mode
l predictive control scheme is proposed using the Hammerstein model st
ructure. Two simulation examples, a pH neutralization process and a bi
nary distillation column, are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of
