ABSOLUTE-CONFIGURATION OF (-)2-DIBENZOFURYLMETHYLSULFINYLACETIC ACID

The crystal structure and the absolute configuration of the title comp ound has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. T he monoclinic unit cell (space group P2(1)) with a = 11.514(2), b = 8. 288(1), c = 13.749(2) angstrom, beta = 99.69(1)-degree and Z = 4 conta ins two crystallographically independent molecules. The configuration at the sulfur atom in both molecules is S. A large liability of the me thoxysulfinylacetic group conformation and configuration is observed. The conformations and S - C(sp3) - C(sp2)(phen)) bond angles of this g roup in two independent molecules are distinctly different. The compar ison of the investigated compound with the literature data of related molecules is given.
