V. Branzoi et al., CLO3 AND BRO3 ANIONS INFLUENCE UPON THE LEAD POLARIZATION BEHAVIOR INCONCENTRATED H2SO4 SOLUTIONS ON REDUCED POTENTIAL RANGES, Revista de chimie, 46(2), 1995, pp. 153-160
The influence of the little ammounts of KCl3 and NaBrO3 on the behavio
ur of lead electrode, at the polarization in concentrated H2SO4 soluti
ons have been studied for limited region of potential, using the poten
tiodynamic technique. The reference electrode was Hg/Hg2SO4/H2SO4. Ana
lysing the potentiodynamic curves and the results of the coulometric m
easurements, we discovered that the main effect of the additives is an
accentuated passivation of the electrode processes, on the studied re
gion of potential. Taking in to consideration the ratio of the additiv
es ammounts and of the active mass/unit of the lead - acid batteries s
urface, the conclusion is that the additives don't decrease the capaci
ty of the active mass, but they can hinder the formation of the insula
ting films between the active mass and the grill.
