Abstract
The crude methanol extract of the stem wood of Quassia amara L. inhibi ted both the basal and LH-stimulated testosterone secretion of rat Ley dig cells in a dose-dependent fashion. Fractionation of the extract by chromatography gave quassin (1) and 2-methoxycanthin-6-one (2); compo und 1 proved to be the bioactive agent.
