AlSb has been studied in a diamond anvil cell by energy dispersive X-r
ay diffraction with a synchrotron source to 50 GPa. The measured equil
ibrium transformation pressure and change in volume for the first orde
r phase transformation between the initial zinc blende and high pressu
re beta-Sn phases is P-e = 5.3 +/- 2 GPa and Delta V = 15 +/- 1% as a
result of loading and unloading transition studies. Equations of state
were obtained for both phases. A transformation from the beta-sn to a
n unknown structure started at 43 GPa.
