Abstract
A convenient synthesis of 1-(8-phosphonomethoxy-3,4-dioxaoctyl) uracil , cytosine, adenine, and guanine nucleotide analogues 26, 28, 30, and 32 by Mitsunobu coupling of the nucleobases with suitably functionaliz ed alcohol derivative 24 is described. The antiviral activity of this series of compounds against herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2 a nd human cytomegalovirus is reported.
