A. Breccia et al., COUPLED SYSTEMS DIELECTRIC - MICROWAVE TO IMPROVE THERMAL EFFECTS, The Journal of microwave power and electromagnetic energy, 30(1), 1995, pp. 3-9
A system of microwave heating of dielectric materials intimately mixed
with material having poor microwave absorption properties was tested
to determine the effect on such materials. The dielectric material is
an important component of this system because its temperature is very
rapidly increased when microwave irradiated even though some change in
its crystalline structure, as shown by X-ray diffractometry, occurs a
fter long exposure to microwave radiation. The dielectric transfers he
at to the material with which it is intimately mixed and as a result s
ubstances containing water can be raised to high temperature more rapi
dly, producing steam, high pressure, weight loss or destruction of org
anics.
