Abstract
The purchase of industrial transportation services has taken on a new level of strategic importance as organizations strive to improve quali ty, productivity, and customer service. In response, a number of trans portation buyers have adopted the strategies and tools from other disc iplines. One such tool is supplier certification. This study offers a descriptive analysis of the utilization of certification, the characte ristics of organizations that certify carriers, and the benefits that have been garnered from this process.
