Shoot induction frequency for the leguminous tree Swartzia madagascari
ensis Desv. was higher on MS and WP media than on B5. Explants incubat
ed on media solidified with agar produced more shoots with a lower ten
dency to hyperhydricity than explants on agarose or Gelrite media. Max
imum shoot induction was obtained with an agar-solidified MS medium co
ntaining 2.2 mu M benzyladenine (37 shoots/explant). Shoots rooted aft
er transfer to half-strength MS medium supplemented with 26.8 mu M nap
hthaleneacetic acid.
