Eighty-three samples of liver and kidney from swine and poultry for hu
man consumption were analysed for aflatoxins B-1, M(1) and aflatoxicol
residues by means of thin-layer chromatography. Aflatoxin B-1 was det
ected in one sample of pig liver from Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) at a
level of 27ng/g (ppb) while none of the poultry kidney and liver sampl
es showed aflatoxins and aflatoxicol. Traces of anatoxin M 1 were foun
d in one sample of kidney tissue. Aflatoxins B-1, M(1), and aflatoxico
l recovered of artificially contaminated meat tissues were: 74% to 95.
2% for anatoxin B-1; 60 to 80% for aflatoxin M(1) and 80 to 95% for af
latoxicol.
