The interplay of disorder effects and exciton-exciton interactions in
the four-wave-mixing process in quantum wells is investigated. Experim
ents are performed employing femtosecond and picosecond pulses to have
either good temporal or good spectral resolution. It is shown that th
e localisation of excitons is of primary importance in the generation
of the nonlinear signal. It is shown which states contribute and how t
o the FWM process.
