Vp. Danilov et al., SELF-TRAPPED EXCITON LUMINESCENCE INDUCED BY PHOTOEXCITATION OF THE IMPURITY IONS IN ALKALI-HALIDES, Solid state communications, 94(6), 1995, pp. 477-480
Highly UV excited KI:In+ and KI:Sn2+ crystals exhibit at low temperatu
res pronounced emission bands peaking near 3.3 eV along with the activ
ator luminescence. The spectra and the lifetimes of the 3.3 eV emissio
n are close to the well-known radiative characteristics of the triplet
self-trapped excitons in pure crystals of KI. The observation of exci
ton luminescence in doped crystals of KI confirms that excitons are in
volved in the process of F-center formation caused by intense optical
excitation of the impurities in alkali halides.
