Seven hybrids were produced by the crossbreeding of 'Murcott' tangor w
ith 'Seto unshiu' (Citrus unshiu Marc.) as the pollen parent. Peel oil
from fruit-rind tissue was prepared by simultaneous distillation and
extraction under reduced pressure. Each peel oil was separated into hy
drocarbon and oxygenated-compound fractions in a silica gel column and
analyzed by a capillary gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The comp
ositions of the hydrocarbon fraction from the hybrids were closer to t
he compositions of 'Murcott' than 'Seto unshiu'. The hybrids had large
r hydrocarbon fractions than their parents. The compositions of the ox
ygenated-compound fractions were different from those of their parents
.
