The purpose of the present study is to determine the relationship of s
ix kinds of mother's and father's behaviours viz., restrictive, permis
sive, loving, neglecting, protective and rejective on three specific p
ersonality traits viz., hostility, self-esteem and self-disclosure of
their offsprings. For this a random sample of 340 adolescents aged 16-
18 yrs were administered Ojha Parental Behaviour Inventory, Bending Ho
stility Scale, Mohsin self-concept Inventory and Jourard Self-Disclosu
re Inventory. It was found that both mother's and father's behaviours,
in general, were significantly related with each of personality trait
s. Multiple regression analyses for the relative contribution of each
of mother's and father's restriction are the significant positive cont
ributors to hostility in adolescents, (2) protective behaviours of bot
h parents contribute significantly positively while their rejective be
haviour contribute significantly negatively to self-esteem; and (3) mo
ther's permissiveness and father's love contribute significantly and p
ositively to self-disclosure.
