P. Vandenberg et al., AN EULEREAN FINITE-ELEMENT MODEL FOR PENETRATION IN LAYERED SOIL, International journal for numerical and analytical methods in geomechanics, 20(12), 1996, pp. 865-886
An Eulerean large-strain finite element formulation is presented to si
mulate static soil penetration. The method is an extension of the Upda
ted Lagrangean description to an Eulerean formulation taking into acco
unt convection of deformation-history-dependent properties as well as
material properties. The strength of the soil is characterized by a no
n-associated Drucker-Prager criterion which depends on peak and critic
al friction angles. The model is applied to cone penetration in two-la
yer systems: (a) clay on sand and (b) sand on clay.
