Production of biogas from fresh water hyacinth in the form of slurry w
as studied in a semi-continuous mode of operation by anaerobic digesti
on. Data were analysed using the Chen and Hashimoto model. Kinetic con
stants mu(m) and K were determined and found to be, on average, 0.125
day(-1) and 0.355 g l(-1) respectively. Computed values of gas product
ivity fitted well with the observed values. Productivity increased wit
h loading rate. Reaction rate decreased with retention time. The minim
um substrate concentration remaining undigested increased with influen
t feed concentration.
