Abstract
Traumatic injuries to the brain result in a series of complex pathophy siologic changes. Following a discussion of some of these processes, t his article reviews various standard diagnostic and therapeutic interv entions. Advances in understanding the chemical and cellular mechanism s of head injury and the role of oxygen free radicals, lactate, and ex citatory amino acids are reviewed with a discussion of possible new th erapies.
