Illumination of a photorefractive BaTiO3 crystal provides an induced a
bsorption increase, which is explained by the two-center charge transp
ort model. Detailed investigations of buildup and decay of light-induc
ed absorption are performed. Intensity changes of the incoming wave ar
e attenuated by these absorption changes. The requirements for distinc
t intensity stabilization are theoretically estimated. Intensity stabi
lization is experimentally demonstrated, and a decrease of the intensi
ty fluctuations of as much as 30% has been achieved.
