Experimental and numerical results of the dynamics of two-polarization
coupling in a nonlinear Bragg reflector are presented. A silicon-on-i
nsulator (SOI) waveguide is used as the model structure. The effects t
hat lattice heating and free-carrier decay have on the dynamics are as
sessed in real time. A two-polarization pump-probe technique is used t
o monitor the reflectivity simultaneously during the laser-pulse inter
action. In addition, the development of three-terminal optical switche
s based on two-polarization coupling is discussed.
