Vy. Tarasov et al., UNFOLDING OF TERTIARY STRUCTURE OF HALOBACTERIUM-HALOBIUM FLAGELLINS DOES NOT RESULT IN FLAGELLA DESTRUCTION, Journal of protein chemistry, 14(1), 1995, pp. 27-31
The structure of Halobacterium halobium R(1)M(1) flagella is investiga
ted by the methods of scanning microcalorimetry, circular dichroism, a
nd electron microscopy. It is shown that melting curves of flagella in
solutions with a different concentration of NaCl display only one pea
k of heat capacity that corresponds to one cooperatively melting domai
n. It is found that flagella do not dissociate after melting. The poss
ible structural organization of archaebacterial flagella is discussed.
