The spectral functions of Luttinger liquids clearly display the main f
eatures distinguishing 1D and 3D models of correlated fermions: non-un
iversal power-law divergences in correlation functions and charge-spin
separation. We discuss the absence of spectral weight at the Fermi ed
ge observed in recent photoemission experiments and show that the Lutt
inger liquid phenomenology applies to the Bechgaard salts (TMTSF)(2)PF
6 but that a ''spin-paired Luttinger liquid'' may be more appropriate
to the CDW materials.
