Carbon molecules with dosed-cage structures are caned fullerenes. Of t
hese, the soccer-ball shaped Buckminsterfullerene C-60 is the most sym
metric and most fascinating species. Methods have been developed of pr
oducing bulk quantities of C-60 and other fullerenes. They form crysta
lline solids, the fullerites. Fullerenes and fullerites are described
and some of their properties are presented.
