We calculate the photoexcitation amplitudes for the gamma + N --> Delt
a(1232) and gamma + N --> N(1440) transitions in the chiral quark mod
el including two-body exchange currents. We show that the contribution
s from the various two-body currents are important. Compared with pres
ent experimental data we see a slight worsening for the N - Delta exci
tation but a small improvement for the transition to the Roper resonan
ce (N(1440)) with respect to the impulse approximation.
