Studies over the past two to three decades concerning the influence of
electromagnetic fields on the stability of two-fluid systems have def
ined a remarkable diversity of phenomena and related application conce
pts. This report examines stationary and moving bed applications of fi
eld-stabilized gas-solids and liquid-solids fluidized systems. The app
lication concepts range over processes for the control of chemical rea
ctions, the separation of molecular species, and the transfer of heat,
mass, and momentum in areas of petrochemical processing, pollution co
ntrol, power generation, and biotechnology.
